4 Odd Benefits to Working Out

Image
Click the link to share on Twitter Many people know working out is good for you. You get stronger, faster, etc. Here are 4 reasons BYU-Idaho students might be encouraged to start working out.  More likely to get pregnant Most college students do not get excited about the idea of getting pregnant. Here at BYU/BYU-Idaho that is a very different story. Students here are getting married and many of them want to begin a family. I personally know couples that want to have their first child, but they can’t seem to get pregnant. Now, I am now saying this will get you pregnant. I am saying that it does increase your chances by increasing your blood and strengthens your heart. This helps push blood to you and your baby and helps it grow. Regularly working out also helps you lose weight and tone your muscles. This is important because weight loss reduces your Body Mass Index (BMI) which increases your chances, plus toner muscles will help make the delivery easier.  Experts agree that you...

3 Important Facts: That Will Change Your Long Term Perspective about Working Out in College

Image
Click this link to share on Twitter Why should you actually care if you are working out in college? I mean you have time to figure out all that after finals, right? Here are a few interesting facts that might help you decide if this change in lifestyle is something worth your investment.  Increases GPA There is a connection between the time you workout and your GPA. One hour of exercise a week boosts your score by 0.06 points. That’s every hour. So, if you worked out 1 hour per day 6 days a week, your GPA on average will be 0.36 points higher.  A study done by University of Miami states that “a one-point increase in high school GPA raises annual earnings in adulthood by around 12 percent for men and 14 percent for women.” In case you didn't see that, this is a high school GPA they studied. How much more of a pay raise do you think a college GPA is?  The same study also found that rising your GPA by 1 percent doubles your chances of finishing college. The average college s...

1 Easy Trick to Eat a Healthier Diet: Hara Hachi Bu

One easy way to lose weight, lower your chances of stroke, cancer, heart diseases, and you can save money? Share by clicking this link. According to a Harvard study it costs an extra $1.50 per day to eat healthy food. Which per month is another $45 that college students have to spend on groceries. Which in itself is not that much money for a healthy lifestyle. Unsplash Still, what if you could switch that around and save an extra $45 dollars each month. What if you could eat healthier, lose weight, and live longer? Sounds too good to be true. I recommend instead of focusing on buying certain types of food; you focus on how you eat the food you already have. The Japanese have a word that means “eat until you are 80% full” or Hara Hachi Bu.  One little trick, by serving your regular plate and then removing a spoon full or two. Your elastic stomach will begin to shrink. As you get use to cooking a little less you will begin to save that $1.50 each day.  I know it sounds crazy how...

Image
Here are 5 benefits you get from different types of workouts. The big three are cardio, weight lifting, and body weight. Click here to share! CARDIO I know, we all hate it, cardio is one of the most mentally challenging parts of working out. I think that is part of the reason why it has some of the greatest benefits.  Benefits Strong heart: means you will not be as tired Improve lungs: means you will be able to run longer Mental Health: means your brain will be healthier and you'll feel better Reduce risk of diseases: means you will live longer and not get as sick Better sleep: yes, every night you can sleep deeper and wake up more awake WEIGHT LIFTING When I was little, my older brothers and I liked to say, ”I like to pick things up and put them down.” (In an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent, to this day I do not know if he ever said that line) Lifting weights is one of the best ways to tone your body and build muscles if you are a boy or a girl.  Benefits Build muscle: Bi...

How to Make a Great 15 Minute Workout Program

Image
"Creating your own workout program gives you more control. Click to share with others!" College students are busy. You are studying full time, working part time, partying part time, etc. Keeping up a busy schedule for 4-5 years builds up resistance but it also builds up stress. One way to eliminate stress is to keep a consistent workout program, but how on Earth are you going to add one more thing to your to-do list? Instead of showing how to workout for 1 hour to get gains, I will teach you how to have a great stress eliminating workout in under 15 minutes.  Since we are focusing on saving time I will show how to do a quick workout from home, but the same principles can be applied to a gym based workout if you feel better at the gym. I'll show you how to set goals, pick easy workouts to progress to your goal, and record your progress, to reach your goal.  GOAL SETTING I know, you are probably sick of setting goals. It’s tough thinking about the long term. If you just wan...

20 Different Exercises for your Chest, Back, and Legs for Beginners

Image
"It is easy to workout when you mix it up. These 60 workouts will help you have a more dynamic workout" I remember when I first started to workout. I was 13 years old and my older brother was a junior in high school. He started taking me to the gym with him (I think because he didn’t want to be alone). But I remember following him around and doing whatever exercise he would do.  I learned so much from my older brother and I will be forever grateful for his help in my early days.  For those of you who do not have a role model to follow, here is a list of 20 different exercises that target your chest, back, and legs, in slightly different ways. I did not add a list of workouts for your arms or core because most of these workouts cover both your arms and core anyway.  These exercises are also useful if you want to learn a skill that is more advanced like for example, handstand. You can pick 3-5 of the back workouts to increase your strength and balance.  Chest  Pus...
